So wonderful that you managed to climb all the stairs —this is the same feeling I had while climbing the Statue Liberty. Firenze is my all time fave city after Rome and London…and the Duomo never gets old. I hope you managed to stop on the Ponte Vecchio and get some jewelry as a reward! Sounds like a difficult task scaling almost stairs but the view was well worth it.

If you only have a short time in Florence, we recommend to get the priority access. The inside is rather sparse; much of the original artworks now reside in the Duomo Museum.
It was this painting that I wanted to see up close and personal. What better way to see it, than to climb it? And the church gives you just this opportunity. If you are outside, facing the front of the Duomo, the entrance will be down the side on the left.
Long lines to climb the dome are common, but I found that the lines were almost non-existent around 4 pm each day and this was during June.
The eight euro admission cost allowed us to climb the steps to the outdoor terrace at the top of the dome. There were no elevators, and multiple signs warned visitors that they should be healthy and prepared to climb.
The Duomo climb is steps through narrow winding corridors and some fairly steep staircases, so wear comfortable shoes. If you have impaired mobility, a heart condition, or suffer from claustrophobia or vertigo, this activity is not for you. I also suggest you take a Duomo Florence tour It will allow you to save yourself time that you can use for other things later, you won't have to wait in a queue for the Cathedral and make a reservation to climb the Dome.
